Nous sommes toujours en train de nous créer et nous re-créer pour et avec les autres autour de nous. Cette création identitaire et existentielle est soumise aux rapports de pouvoirs : voilà la prémisse fondamentale du théâtre de l’opprimé. Cette pratique se situe au-delà la division sentir/penser, il s’agit d’une pratique qui reconnait à l’imagination et à la représentation la possibilité de créer et d’instituer le monde, dans les mots d’Augusto Boal :

« Les humains sont capables de se regarder dans l’acte de voir, capables de penser leurs émotions et de s’émotionner avec leurs pensées. Ils peuvent se voir ici et s’imaginer là-bas, ils peuvent se regarder tels qu’ils sont maintenant et s’imaginer tels qu’ils seront demain. » —Boal, Augusto, Teatro del oprimido : Teoría y práctica, México, Nueva Imagen, 1980, p. 26.

This workshop invites you to experiment with exercises from the theatre of the oppressed, to participate in a “theatre forum”, and to encourage ethical-political thoughts rooted in current events.

We are always creating and re-creating ourselves for and with the others surrounding us. This identity-based, existential creation is subject to power relationships: therein lies the fundamental premise of the theatre of the oppressed. This practice goes beyond the division between feeling and thinking; it is a practice that acknowledges imagination and the representation of the possibility of creating and establishing people. In the words of Augusto Boal.

« Humans are capable of watching themselves in the act of seeing, capable of thinking with their emotions and of feeling with their thoughts. They may see themselves here and imagine themselves there, they may look at themselves as they are now and imagine how they will be tomorrow. » — Boal, Augusto, Teatro del oprimido: Teoría y práctica, México, Nueva Imagen, 1980, p. 26.
