The Refuge Tonneau (Barrel refuge) was designed as a mountain refuge unit in 1938, by Charlotte Perriand with Pierre Jeanneret, and was reconstituted in 2010. It is a pre-fabricated refuge made from aluminium panels which can be dismantled. It is light, compact, transformable and transportable, adapted to the mountain climate and sleep 8 persons. Put together by the students from the Saint-Etienne Higher School of Architecture (ENSASE), it is exposed on the forecourt of the School and can be "tried out" by the public.
