Grille monumentale: ensemble immobilier “Charcot”
Loire Habitat

Loire Habitat, the Loire public housing body, has embarked upon an ambitious programme of works on its Charcot site in Saint-Étienne, calling upon the know-how of architect and urban planner Paul Cassar and designers Emmanuel Louisgrand and Marion Darregert, through the intermediary of the Cité du Design. The Charcot housing complex is in fact organised around an interior courtyard that is left unused by its inhabitants, as they see it as too exposed to the public space To remedy this situation, the housing body has decided to requalify this space, by closing it in with a monumental fence (19 m long and 5 to 6 m high) designed as an urban feature that will give structure to the site and create a form of intimacy. A genuine landmark in the cityscape, this fence is part of the Saint-Étienne Ville de Design initiative, and it makes the most of local Loire know-how.
